Kazutaka was born in Kochi, Japan 1982. Since the early years of childhood, music was always fascinating for him – learning piano, recorder, drum set, tables and chairs. He started his percussion study at the age of 16 (finally!) and went on to the Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts and Music and the Conservatorium Van Amsterdam, where he studied with Nick Woud, Jan Pustjens, Peter Prommel, Victor Oskam, Momoko Kamiya and Mitsuaki Imamura.
Since 2009 Kazutaka has served in the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra in Norway as tutti percussionist, the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra as sub-principal timpanist and the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra in Finland as principal percussionist. He currently resides as the principal timpanist of the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. He is also a member of the Helsinki Percussion Ensemble and the Haku Percussion Duo.
As a soloist he had appeared with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Joensuu City Orchestra. In 2021 he was appointed as a part-time percussion lecturer at the Sibelius Academy. He has given masterclasses occasionally in Finland, Japan and USA.
In his free time he loves climbing and violin playing.
