Bruce Chou is currently the Principal Timpanist with the Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra in Hangzhou, China
Originally from Taiwan, Bruce started studying piano at age of 5, and percussion at age 13. He studied at the Idyllwild Arts Academy in California, USA in 1995. He then went on to study with Professor Erik Forrester at the University of Southern California, and then with Frank Epstein of Boston symphony at the New England Conservatory. He participated the 2004 Pacific Music Festival in Sapporo, Japan, and performed under the baton of Maestro Fabio Luisi, Wen-pin Chien, and Valery Gergiev.
From 2005 to 2013, Bruce held the position of timpani/percussion at the Evergreen Symphony Orchestra in Taipei, Taiwan. In 2013, he was appointed Principal Timpanist at the Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra.
